According to the national standard GB 8624, qualified PVC wall panels meet the B1 fire-retardant material standard. They will automatically extinguish themselves after being exposed to an open flame and the flame source is removed, preventing them from burning indefinitely. However, inferior or untreated ordinary plastic products may only be B2 flammable, easily ignited and producing a lot of smoke.
When purchasing, look for B1 or higher flame-retardant certification and check if the product has a formal fire protection test report. PVC itself contains chlorine, which has some flame-retardant properties, but it decomposes at high temperatures, releasing hydrogen chloride gas, which produces smoke and is irritating.
Flame-retardant PVC wall panels are commonly used in hospital ward corridors and high-traffic public spaces, but in high-rise buildings and other places with extremely high fire protection requirements, they must be used in conjunction with an overall fire protection design.
