Driven by both national and corporate initiatives, a nationwide "wall panel craze" is gradually emerging. Preliminary statistics indicate that in 2006, over 150 companies in China were directly or indirectly involved in the research, production, and sales of wood-plastic composites (WPC). These companies are mainly concentrated in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta regions, with the number in the eastern region far exceeding that in the central and western regions. Among them, some eastern companies have leading technological levels in the industry, while southern companies hold a significant advantage in product quantity and market share. Currently, the industry employs a large number of people, and the annual output and sales of WPC products are considerable, with a total output value reaching approximately 3 billion RMB. The experimental samples of leading technology companies have reached or surpassed international advanced levels.
Benefiting from China's industrial policies of "building a resource-saving and environmentally friendly society" and "sustainable development," WPC has experienced rapid development since its inception. Especially against the backdrop of increasingly severe global greenhouse gas emissions, the promotion of a "low-carbon economy" has fully demonstrated the value of WPC.
[Future Trends]
As the industrialization of wood-plastic composite (WPC) products accelerates, researchers in application fields are gradually revealing their shortcomings and raising more stringent requirements. For outdoor products used in landscaping, anti-aging and colorfast properties are required to extend service life; for indoor doors, windows, and decorative components, good flame retardant properties are desired to ensure safe use; and for load-bearing WPC products used in building foundations, excellent mechanical properties are required, along with reinforcement treatment to improve creep resistance. Simultaneously, with increasing awareness of energy conservation and environmental protection, the construction industry is placing stricter demands on the energy-saving performance of WPC products. Therefore, WPC products are gradually evolving towards functionalization and high added value, with diversified products such as flame-retardant, reinforced, anti-aging, creep-resistant, and thermal insulation types emerging.
